April is National Volunteer Month

Adult Volunteers are the backbone of the 4-H Youth Development Program in Santa Clara County. Their contributions were celebrated and efforts recognized during the Annual 4-H Volunteer Recognition Night. Twenty-one volunteers were recognized in ten different categories. The event took place on April 21st at San Martin Lions Club

“Head” Award: Cheryl Beckwith and Curtis Ullerich

4-H members pledge their head to clearer thinking. The volunteers receiving this award contribute their clear thinking to 4-H by leading and sharing their knowledge or skills.  These volunteers also honor and practice youth-adult partnerships.

“Heart” Award: Sandi Geringer and Jason Bombardier

4-H members pledge their heart to greater loyalty. The volunteers receiving the heart award commit their heart to the 4-H Youth Development Program. This is exemplified by their very thoughtful and caring treatment of others, and their concern for the success of the 4-H program.

“Hands” Award: Diane Guerin and Mike Davis

4-H members pledge their hands to larger service. The recipients of this award commit their hands to larger service. These volunteers look outside of themselves to support youth development in 4-H and in the community.

“Health” Award: Holly Dane, Ken Lieu, and Colleen Alger

4-H members pledge their health to better living. The recipients of this award contribute to the 4-H Youth Development Program through health education, safety support at county events, or health and safety-based project leadership.

Emerging Leader Award: Julie Wood and Lori Longo

The recipients of this award have three or fewer years of service as a 4-H volunteer.  They are known as the ones that jumped in with both feet, contributing their time and energy to developing youth at a club or county level. These volunteers are eager to learn and provide more opportunities for Santa Clara County 4-H youth.

Lifetime Achievement Award: Joanne Haggerty

The recipient of this award has dedicated countless hours to the 4-H program. As a youth 4-H member and now as a 4-H volunteer, they represent the 4-H Youth Development Program on a continuing basis. They volunteer their time to the program, mentor youth and other volunteers. They inspire others and lead selflessly.

Outstanding Ranch Volunteer Award: Aaron Teagle, Chris Allan, Holly Wilson, Katie Oxford

Ranch work can be demanding work. The recipients of this award never shy away from hard work. This award is for a volunteer that tirelessly contributes to the success and opportunities for youth at a    4-H ranch, supports other ranch volunteers and leads by example.

Outstanding Camp Volunteer Award: Jennifer Graybeal and Stan Alger

The recipients of this award commit their Head, Heart, hands, and health to the success of camp.  They are year-long ambassadors of 4-H camp.

Outstanding Outreach Team Award: Nicky Call, Alycia Call, Rebecca Call, Alexander Call

This award is for a team of volunteers that provide outstanding ambassadorship of the 4-H YDP to the surrounding community.

 Outstanding Club Leadership Award: Christine Robison and Julie Ho

The recipient of this award is being recognized for outstanding leadership at the club level.  They have a positive impact in the club and often mentor other volunteers.
