A presentation is a method used to communicate an idea by showing and/or telling. It can be a demonstration or a talk that uses posters and other visual aids. A 4-H Presentation helps you learn to:

  • Research a subject
  • Organize ideas in a logical order
  • Be a teacher and practice public speaking skills

Need help deciding on a topic or type of presentation? Use our new worksheet to help you brainstorm, narrow down your topics, and prepare your presentation.

Public speaking skills are ranked number one among the skill sets of professionals. Other guiding factors for developing public speaking skills include:

  • Discovering an important component of leadership development
  • Increasing self-esteem, self-confidence, and ability to accept feedback
  • Expanding skills in planning, preparation, and performance

Presentation Day requires the help of BOTH youth and adult volunteers to make the day run smoothly.

Please register if you are available to volunteer for one of the positions.

Room Host:  Youth room hosts play a vital role in ensuring a smooth transition between presentations and making sure a participant is not disturbed during their presentation. Typical duties of a room host include; introducing each participant and monitoring the door. Room hosts will ask presenters and evaluators whether they are ready, and then invite the presenter to proceed. Members are not required to be participants.

Teen Evaluator: Members 16 years and older are encouraged to serve. You must have been a presenter in the individual/team presentation categories at County Presentation Day in prior years.

Adult Evaluator: Leaders and other adult volunteers are asked to serve as evaluators for the various 4-H presentation styles. (No previous experience necessary.)
