Latino Youth Development

From the Ground Up: Building Foundations for Engaging Underserved Populations and Places

A collaboration between UC ANR 4-H Youth Development Program and UC Davis Center for Regional Change seeks to identify guiding principles for recruiting, engaging and sustaining the participation of Latino youth and families in youth programs.

A multi-site qualitative study is underway in Merced, Riverside and Santa Clara counties to address the following research questions:

  1. What are the effective practices in reaching, engaging and sustaining the participation of Latino youth in youth organizations?
  2. How can the 4-H YDP best contribute its resources to underserved young people’s development from the vantage point of diverse youth and their adult allies?
  3. Are there variations in these barriers and interests across individual localities and/or rural and urban contexts?
