This position is located in Bakersfield, CA.

The Area Cooperative Extension (CE) advisor for Nutrition, Family, and Consumer Sciences (NFCS) will conduct a locally-based extension, education and applied research NFCS program in family resource management including money management, food budgeting and security, and nutrition with an emphasis on obesity and chronic disease prevention. The CE advisor will coordinate with public/private sector nutrition and health-related collaborators; seek external funding to supplement federally funded nutrition programs and research related to the Healthy-Families and Communities Initiatives; and develop nutrition education and policy relevant materials/briefs. The CE advisor will provide academic leadership and oversight to five nutrition education staff in the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) and UC CalFresh Nutrition Education Program (UC CalFresh) in Kern and Inyo Counties. In addition, the CE advisor will provide academic leadership and oversight to the Master Food Preserver Program in Inyo-Mono.

 All UC ANR CE advisors are responsible for performance in the areas of 1) applied research and creative activity, 2) extension of knowledge and information, 3) professional competence and activity, and 4) University and public service.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  A minimum of an earned Master's Degree, though other advanced degrees are encouraged, in nutrition, health education, public health, human development, social policy or a closely related field is required by the appointment date.  Academic training and/or professional experience must provide an understanding of nutrition. Additionally, academic training and/or professional experience in program design and research methodologies is required. Excellent written, oral, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills are required. Experience working with diverse populations and the ability to bridge cultural differences is required. Ability to apply low-literacy and cultural/ethnic principles into extension and research program elements is preferred. Strong leadership skills and experience in program, resource, and personnel management are highly desirable. The ability to build partnerships, community collaboration, and to work with multidisciplinary teams to address challenges of low-income populations is desired.
