Nutrition Education Programs Building a Healthy Community

The Nutrition, Family & Consumer Sciences Program in Santa Clara County is anchored in the two federally funded nutrition education programs – the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program and the UC CalFresh Nutrition Education Program. Working in collaboration with local partners serving low-income populations, these programs deliver direct nutrition education to youth, families with children, and adults. Increasingly NFCS program staff also work with local stakeholders to enact policy, system, and environmental (PSE) changes that make healthy choice the default choice in a variety of settings.

This class makes me more aware of healthy eating and enforces me to keep maintaining better food selections. Thank you for devoting the time in educating and implementing your knowledge to all of us.

“This has helped me realize that most of the food I’ve consumed is not healthy and that I should begin eating healthier for my overall health.”

I now drink more water, and I have actually taken a look at my fridge before going grocery shopping. I also eat before I grocery shop, just to make sure I buy what I need and not what I am craving at that second.
