International Compost Awareness Week
May 5 to 11 we celebrate International Compost Awareness Week. This global event reminds us all about the importance of recycling and restoring our soils. During this time communities throughout the world come together to reduce their waste and make compost. This highlights another important fact about composting – it’s better to do it together!
The Composting Education Program has worked for the past two years to develop community composting sites throughout the County of Santa Clara. These hubs will serve as places for our community to come learn about composting through doing. Once fully established, classes and events will be held at the sites throughout the year. With more hands, more compost will be made and applied within our region, reducing greenhouse gas emissions from landfills, returning carbon to the soil and building real social networks. These sites demonstrate how our local actions can have big global impacts – just in time for the 2019 International Compost Awareness week.
The Composting Education Program will have an Initial Training in 2020. If you are interested in becoming a Master Composter, please check out our website for more information.
